morons.org 2.0 errata
As with any new site, there are a bunch of known problems. Don't bug us about these problems. We're working on them. As they're fixed, they'll disappear off this list, or workarounds will be posted.
Note: If you're experiencing strange behaviour from the article lists or other preferences, try wiping out your stored morons.org cookies.
- Using weird HTML-ish things in messages causes bits of the message to be duplicated (eg, <3)
- "Read article" feature isn't checking the size of the READ0 and READ1 cookies, so in some cases they can bloat up
too large to be stored as proper cookies or returned as proper headers anymore.
- "links" in "External links..." should be a link to a page explaining about the external linkage magic, including
that it requires javascript to be enabled (and that it's a best effort type of thing).
- There is a mismatch between the queries that produce the URL queue and the job that produces the missed-stories story
- Need "posting help" page
- Premium Feature: bookmark article
- Need a way to search journals
- Need a way to search comments
- Need a way to browse journal entries by date
- Opera does not handle CSS text floats correctly, and puts a large amount of horizontal space around them.
- MSIE 5 does not properly handle the "width" attribute for table widths for the rightmost column.
- Opera does not understand absolute values for either the deprecated TD tag "width" attribute or the CSS "width" property unless at least one column is defined to have a percentage width.
- Opera does not properly format the article list or article headings.
- MSIE gets the colors in the PNG logo wrong
- Opera 5 tends to put the title text up too high such that the top clips off
- MSIE 4 does not handle URL character entity parsing properly, so when expanding links in the message board, you get
a servlet exception. The solution is to upgrade to a newer version of IE or use a different browser, as this bug is caused
by incorrect parsing in the browser, not the server.
- There are extensive HTML conformance problems with all XSLT, although the pages generally do render correctly.
- XSLT needs to have the correct DOCTYPEs for the pages they generate. The Caucho XSLT engine seems to not be outputting them.
- Lots of things need the addition of verical whitespace.
- Many legacy CSS classes are missing; some of the weird old book excerpts may not format properly
- Text insets are probably broken for browsers other than type-1 and type-2 (MSIE>=5, Opera >=5, Netscape 6, Mozilla and similar)
